How to Play an Encrypted Channel on 3rd-party Devices

If you encounter an issue when playing a TV channel stream on a 3rd-party device, it would be great to get some debug data directly from a media player (e.g. ExoPlayer). And there is no problem with running an unencrypted channel. But when it comes to the encrypted stream, you need to provide the player with a DRM token.

Starting from the SmartTUBE SDP v7.9.3.7, you can generate token in the Admin Console. Follow the steps below:

  1. In the Channels -> [channel of interest]-> Streams tab, press a button Request DRM token:

  2. Choose for how long this token will be valid and for what terminal it should be generated:

  1. Copy the generated tokens and license servers (they can be different for Live and DVR, if the corresponding URLs are different):

  2. Use these data in the player.

If you use the ExoPlayer (download it from the ExoPlayer official website), click Details on any built-in stream and edit it according to your needs:
