Installing SmartTUBE app on Samsung TV manually

The SmartTUBE app supports all model years of Samsung Tizen Smart TVs available for publishing at the Samsung app store portal.

For installation, please prepare a clean USB 2.0 drive.

Installation from USB Drive

  1. If you are a SmartLabs customer, please go to your SmartLabs Wiki‘s space.
If not, you can try our demo app. For getting the latest version, please contact our Sales Team
  2. Download the app package intended for the Samsung Smart TVs from the Software Release Notes page.
  3. Create the userwidget directory in the root directory of your USB drive.
  4. Unzip 2 files (.tmg and .license) from the package in the userwidget directory.
  5. Connect the USB drive to your Samsung Smart TV.
  6. The notification that the app installation has started should pop up on the screen.
  7. After successful installation, the “Done” notification should appear at the top.

Possible Installation Failures

  • Incorrect spelling of the userwidget directory.
  • Files .tmg and .license are located not in the userwidget directory, but, for example, in an nested one.
  • The app is already is installed from the Tizen Studio. Please deleted it first.
  • There is no free space in the TV’s memory. Please delete some other apps on the TV.
  • Sometimes Samsung Smart TVs cannot install the app from too large drive or USB 3.0 drive.
  • The USB drive is in read-only mode. In this case, the error – 7: “[User App] *.tmg, invalid app package for security check failed[-7]” appears.
  • There is a space in the name of the .tmg file. In this case, the error : “[User App] * *.tmg, invalid app package for security check failed[]” appears.
  • Sometimes, when the installation fails for no obvious reason, resetting the TV to factory settings may help you. If that didn’t help, you may need to wait for all the default apps to be installed. After that, re-install the application from the USB drive.

Re-signing the Application

Each release of the SmartTUBE app for Samsung Tizen TVs is published on customer’s SmartLabs Wiki‘s in two variants:

  • Production build — xxx.wgt, and
  • Build for test purposes (installed manually from USB drive) — xxx.-userwidget.zip.

These builds are signed with validity period of 30 days. Therefore, in order to work with the test build beyond this period, it needs to be re-signed.

The Samsung App Store allows you to re-sign a prod build and make it into a test build yourself:

  1. Sign-in on the Samsung Apps TV Seller Office with your Samsung account:

  2. In your profile that opens, select USB Demo Packaging Tool:
