Content Management

SmartTUBE SDP provides a suite of tools that allow Content Management Departments to control TV channels, programs, and the VoD movie / series library.
The platform also supports the import and maintenance of multilingual Electronic Program Guide (EPG) data and VoD metadata.

SmartTUBE SDP enables operators to manage TV content distributed via IPTV, OTT, and DVB-T/T2/C networks.
The following TV services are supported:

  • Live TV: real-time broadcast streaming.
  • Catch-up: allows subscribers to watch TV programs for a period after original airing. Recording is performed on operator equipment using hardware or software components such as the SmartMEDIA Content Delivery Subsystem.
    Catch-up-related services include:
    • Pause Live / Restart TV: pause, rewind, and fast-forward within an ongoing program.
    • Start Over: restart the currently broadcasting program from the beginning.
    • Time Shift / TSTV: play, pause, rewind, and fast-forward completed programs within a retention window defined by the operator.
    • Catch-up Content Library: access selected recorded programs via content rails on the SmartTUBE Apps Home screen.
  • nPVR: cloud recording of completed, ongoing, or upcoming programs initiated by the subscriber.

Management of TV Content

  • Channel management: create and organize channels.
  • Channel metadata: control title, description, channel number, and topics; assign a common logo or device-specific variants.
  • Streaming settings: configure streaming sources, multicast/unicast URLs, DVR/nPVR endpoints, encryption types per device type, and regional restrictions; channels can be immediately disabled if required.
  • Age restrictions: assign an age level determining visibility and PIN-protected access.
  • Channel sorting: combine numerical and fixed-position sorting rules in SmartTUBE Apps.
  • Program management:
    • Program metadata: manage titles, series attributes, country/year, posters, age rating, genre, cast, awards, etc.
    • Automatic EPG import: supports XMLTV and SmartLabs EPG XML formats for program listings.
    • Catch-up options: control program availability and duration in catch-up services.
    • Blackout: replace program video with a predefined image to block broadcast.
    • nPVR recording restrictions: limit recording of certain programs on specific device types.
    • Additional logo overlay: apply secondary logos using the SmartMEDIA Content Delivery System.
    • Closed caption management: select and expose CC tracks from the source stream for subscribers.

Video on Demand (xVoD)

SmartTUBE SDP supports all standard VoD models, enabling operators to manage movie and series catalogs from local storage or external content providers:

  • TVoD (Transactional): one-time purchase with a limited viewing period.
  • SVoD (Subscription): ongoing access to a content catalog via recurring or single payments.
  • AVoD (Advertising): free access supported by pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll advertisements.

Management of xVoD Library

  • Content metadata: manage titles, countries, years, artwork, distribution windows, ratings, genres, cast, and awards.
  • Content assets: manage assets for movies, series episodes, and trailers. Each asset may include multiple versions (SD/HD/UHD) with different encryption, providers, or pricing/bundling rules. Assets can be enabled for offline viewing in SmartTUBE Apps.
  • Regional restrictions: apply geographic restrictions per movie or series.
  • Integration with content providers: SmartTUBE SDP offers standardized integration schemes with multiple external VoD sources.

Radio Stations

SmartTUBE SDP supports radio station management with configuration options similar to those for TV channels, including metadata, streaming parameters, and regional settings.

Content Protection

SmartTUBE SDP provides multi-layered protection for IPTV / OTT content:

  • DRM protection: supports Google Widevine and Apple FairPlay. Integration with SmartLabs UDRM allows combined or parallel DRM use.
  • Token-based stream access: integrated with SmartMEDIA Content Delivery System; uses JWT tokens to prevent unauthorized OTT stream access.
  • Copy protection on physical outputs: controls recording via analog/digital outputs of supported STBs using HDCP and CGMS-A / WSS.
  • Watermark messaging: overlays dynamic text with subscriber identifiers on video streams to deter copying; operators can set transparency, screen position, duration, and applicable channels.
